a 1,000 MPH Ride

There are still projects that amaze me by trying to break physical limits and being out of the world context (economic crisis and global warming for example). The BloodHound SSC project is about design, build and run the faster “car” on Earth, a supersonic rocket car I should say,  to break away the land speed record  to 1,000 mph or 1,609.34 km/h or Mach 1.3487.

The World Land Speed record, meaning breaking the sound barrier on ground was established first in September 25th 1997 and then in  October 15th 1997 and hold by Andy Green, a former Royal Air Force wing Commander. The record of Andy Green is 763.035 mph or 1,227.99 km/h or Mach 1.016 with ThrustSCC. Andy is part of the BloodHound SCC project and for sure he will be the pilot of this ground rocket.

This project is very interesting, it will explore new areas of design and bring a lot of scientific and technological discoveries and new concepts we will retrieve one day in the common cars. As it was the case with one of the most beautiful aircraft ever designed, Concorde, we retrieve today most of the developed technologies on the current and coming commercial airplanes .

However, instead of trying to design the fastest gas engine car, why not focusing capitals an smart people to design the most efficient gas free engine car and get a 1,000 mpg or 425 km/l record?

Golfing Even On A Severe T-Storm

This week, the weather in my area is not so good, big thunderstorms and showers. As a consequence, I am not able to play my favorite sport Golf (in fact, one of my favorite sports. I will talk next time on Sky-diving and Scuba-diving).

This situation will be over in 2010. Why ? Because the  “Indoor Golf Arena” will announce its Grand Opening.  It will be the world’s largest Indoor Golf center will open in Netherlands with a 34 bay roof top and 15,000 square feet or 14.000m2 of Southwest Greens synthetic grass golf practice with bunkers and water hazards. Of course, you will have some kid’s training, wellness/Golf fitness centers with sauna and spa, hotels and restaurants.

Sunflower Condo

I remember a House builder in France named Domespace that designs rotating wood house shaped like a dome. With this concept, your home is able to follow the sun like a sunflower or able to change the landscape according to your mood.

I read a couple of days ago that David Fisher, an Israeli-Italian architect, has the same idea for designing homes, buildings and skyscrapers Dynamic Architecture. Each floor will be positioned according to the wishes of its occupants through a rotating central axis. A project will be launched soon in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Image the visual aspect of such a building with each floor in a different exposition, everyday a different building…

Alstom AGV

Currently, the new high-speed train from ALSTOM group, A.G.V. , makes his first dynamic tests on a track rail somewhere in the middle of the Czech campaign, at Velim (50 km from Prague) Czech Republic precisely.

According to Laurent Baron, director of platform “TGV” (for High Speed Train in French) of ALSTOM, “they will perform a lot of tests on the wheel-track contact and the stability of bogies compared to the track . Because “AGV” is a brand new train, fully articulated and especially with an engine spread over the length of the train. The worst case will be that the bogies go to instability, ie going to transversal vibration phenomena, which could lead in some extreme cases to derailments. They have simulated everything, but nothing is better than  a good verification in reality”.

The “Realistic Simulation” has still have to prove the reliability and quality of the computed results. The full confidence is not fully acquired yet. Surprisingly, the Czech railway loop only allows maximum speeds of 210 km/h (131 mph) while AGV is expected to go around 300 km/h (187 mph) on the Italian railway lines and knowing it is designed to roll at 360 km/h (224 mph) as commercial cruise speed.

However, 3D LifeLike Experience has already convinced some industries like ALSTOM…

BMW X5 “Touch”

As agreed with a post I read on a blog, Apple has always redefined its industrial sector through its products and even beyond by influencing the other sectors such as automotive.

The “joint team” 3M-Visteon presented on a BMW X5 SUV its concept of central console: X-Wave. Only one “click wheel” in the middle and “touch” sensitive commands all around. However, there is still a vibration feedback system to validate the acquisition and activation of the order chosen by the driver.
